In a significant milestone for the "Ukraine Without Pain" strategic initiative, six Ukrainian physicians have successfully completed a one-month observership in the United States. The specialists undertook their training at the Yale School of Medicine (YSM) and Yale New Haven Hospital.

This program, organized by Doctors United for Ukraine (DU4U) in partnership with Nova Ukraine and with the support of the Yale World Partnership Fund, represents a crucial step in developing Ukraine's national chronic pain management system. The Ukrainian doctors gained exposure to advanced American methodologies in chronic pain treatment and the integration of mental health care.

Oksana Gologorska, Nova Ukraine Vice President of Medical Projects, highlighted the training’s strategic importance:

"The war has created an unprecedented volume of chronic pain cases, and our 'Ukraine Without Pain' strategic initiative is designed to build a system where world-class treatment is accessible. International partnerships and specialized training for our doctors are an absolutely critical element in achieving this goal and creating sustainable change."

Throughout the observership, the doctors engaged in clinical observation, interactive seminars, and interdisciplinary case discussions with leading YSM experts. They studied multimodal therapies, including advanced interventional procedures such as cryoablation and neurolysis—techniques central to the project’s mission.

Maksym Tkachuk, an anesthesiologist from Chernivtsi and one of the participants, stated:

"Training at Yale allowed us not only to absorb new, cutting-edge pain management approaches but also to share the invaluable experience gained while treating wartime patients. We will immediately integrate this knowledge into our work in Ukraine, significantly enhancing the capabilities of the 'Ukraine Without Pain' project."

The successful completion of this observership confirms that the "Ukraine Without Pain" initiative continues to strategically invest in:

  • Advanced clinical education for Ukrainian physicians;

  • Equipping hospitals with modern tools;

  • Developing national treatment protocols.
