Today, the course “Treatment of Pain Syndrome in Patients with Combat Trauma” for doctors of the Main Medical Clinical Center of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine has concluded.
For several days, one team was teaching another. The training was filled with useful information, engaging discussions, and practical case studies.
During the course, we discussed the diagnosis of pain syndromes, psychological methods of pain treatment, and medication-based correction. We examined interventions on the peripheral nervous system and focused in more detail on regional anesthesia in the treatment of nociceptive and neuropathic pain. We shared experience in reconstructive surgery for servicemen using different methods of defect closure. Attention was given to interventions on the central nervous system. We also discussed minimally invasive methods of treating phantom limb pain. In addition, colleagues had the opportunity to observe our doctors at work in the operating room.
Particular interest was sparked by the workshop “Multidisciplinary Rehabilitation Team.” Colleagues visited the rehabilitation department, and we gladly shared our experience in physical rehabilitation of amputee patients and the potential of modern technologies in pain management.
The “Problem Limb” case conference also provoked lively discussion and allowed both teams to share successful clinical cases from their own practice.
A dedicated pain management round in the military wards gave doctors the chance to personally speak with defenders and hear their stories of fighting for a life without pain.
We thank our colleagues for their active participation, engagement, dynamic discussions, and tireless eagerness to learn and exchange experience.
We are grateful to Nova Ukraine, the Ukrainian Association of Vascular Access, the Ukrainian Society of Regional Anesthesia and Pain Therapy, and the Ministry of Health of Ukraine for their support and initiative!
By teaching, we learn as well!
